For the first time, the jury actually heard from Sam Parker in his murder trial this morning.
The former LaFayette, Georgia police sergeant didn't take the stand, but the prosecution played his first recorded interview with the G-B-I.
Parker stands accused of killing his estranged wife, Theresa Parker. She has not been seen since the late night hours of March 21st, 2007 and her body has never been found.
Investigators are trying to pinpoint Sam Parker's location and activities on the morning of March 22nd.Last week, Christy Bellflower took the stand. Bellflower and Parker had just started seeing each other that March. Under oath, Bellflower said Parker left her LaFayette apartment around five that morning.
Today, the jury heard Parker tell the G-B-I, he left her apartment at six.
And after a second interview, five days after Theresa Parker was last seen, lead investigator G-B-I agent James Harris took a picture of Parker's right arm. From the witness stand, Senior Agent Harris used a red light pointer and arrow to describe bruises in the fold of the elbow and up Parker's bicep. "It shows bruising, here, here, here, here, here, here, here," Harris said.
Investigators suspect the bruising came in a struggle with Theresa and he used her Forerunner to dispose of her body. Last week, two Walker County deputies testified to checking the Parker house on March 22nd between about 6:30 and 6:55 in the morning. On that "welfare check" which was kept off the record books, each deputy testified no one answered the door after repeated checks and Theresa's Forerunner was not in the garage.
But today, the jury heard Sam Parker tell the GBI he arrived home around 7:30 to go fishing with his divorce attorney, Bill Slack. Parker told the GBI, he left Bellflower's around 6:00, then went to his father's house to change into camouflage pants and get fishing gear. His father had passed away about three weeks prior. His home was in the heart of Trion, in north Chattooga County. Parker said he then went back to his home on Cordell Road, which is located southwest of LaFayette.
Parker told agents when he arrived at about 7:30, Theresa's Forerunner was in the garage and her bedroom door inside the house was shut. He told agents "figured she was asleep," saying she slept with the door closed.
To date, only the prosecution has shown its side. Initially, this trial was expected to last three weeks. Those involved in this high profile case estimate the trial will conclude inside of three weeks.
