Dear editor:
My name is Kenneth Parker and I am the brother of Sam Parker, who was recently con-victed of three felonies (murder, giving false statement, and violation of oath of office). Al-though I have not made a public statement until now, this did not mean that I did not support my brother and sympathy for Theresa’s family. I took the advice not to “go” public with thoughts or comments until after the trial.
I feel we do not need further division between guilt or innocence. We do not need any more threats or intimidation. What we need is to seek wisdom and compassion toward one another. We need to ask for understanding toward those who still suffer in the wake of the last few months and for some, many years past. Whether we agree of disagree with the ver-dict that was made, the ones selected to serve on the jury made this decision. Every person has a constitutional right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law be-yond a reasonable doubt. I feel that for reasons of outside influence he was not given this opportunity of presumed innocence. He was presumed guilty and had to prove his innocence from the beginning.
I regret deeply anyone that had to testify during this course of events that led them to be forced to make public testimony in this case due to words or acts that took place in their presence, in some cases years ago and had to be recalled from their memory alone of the event(s) in question. I would have preferred for some who came forward that testified who only has malice, revenge, and retaliation on their mind for times past, to not have taken this time for vengeance but to testify only on evidence pertaining to this case and not opinion and personal interest of times past. But their decision will rest on their shoulders and I hope they find some satisfaction with this verdict. I know that it was their duty to their oath of office to do so and was necessary to see the constitutional process through to its conclusion. To these I hope they know there are no feelings of anger or betrayal.
To those who were not able to give my sister or myself support due to reasons only known to them, let me say there is no bitterness toward you. To those who did support us in your own way, you will never know how much that meant to us and how grateful we are. I can only hope and pray that both families can now find rest and peace. But for those who were abso-lutely poisoned with contempt and hatred for my brother, I can only hope they can live in the present and not in the past with this verdict. I ask for those who prayed for both families to continue to do so for strength, wisdom, and understanding and that God’s will be done. These are my thoughts and opinions only.
