Ok. I have to say this. First... I am a 911 dispatcher and eerily enough my fiance is a Police Sgt. Needless to say, her story has interested me from the beginning. I have kept up to date on every single detail.
I try to remain hopeful every day. Maybe she left to escape... maybe she is alive somewhere. However, no matter what happens I simply can not criticize LE. I can assure you. They know more than what has been released. If not, they would not be able to appropriately investigate their case. And... I think everyone would agree... that is the most important thing. Finding Theresa... and justice being served.
Now...that being said... there are always some bad apples in the bunch. That is with every profession. However, I can say without any hesitation if I were missing... or even late to a shift every cop in the city would be out looking for me. Why, you ask?
See...there is a mentality that comes with our job. "Everybody goes home." Those who have not worked 12 hour night shift with the boys in blue may not be able to grasp that. Or, every holiday... the armed robberies...homicides...foot pursuits, officer in danger calls. It is something that can not be put into words. But we form relationships with those officers on the road. They trust their dispatchers to make sure they go home to their family... and there is a mutual respect. Even the grouchy veteran officers...while they may not always show it... the respect is there. It is unspoken. And...in times of crisis...it is a security to know that they become your extended family. And...we are protective of our own.
I say all of that to say... I am certain that that agency is heartbroken every day. I am certain that each and every officer that has worked with her would work overtime everyday if it meant Theresa would come home safe. It is what we do. I know they feel defeated when a shift ends and they still have not located her or made an arrest. I am not sure about your agency...but I seriously doubt these officers are getting a fat paycheck out of her disappearance. As someone who is engaged to a police officer, who is a supervisor at that, I happen to know they do not make enough money for the job they do. Overtime or not... and if they are working overtime...that would mean they are working IN ADDITION to their 8 or 12 hour shift to search for her. Would you work overtime and not get paid? And... I have to ask the person that posted that comment... are you going out everyday (on your off time) in the heat and searching for her?
PLEASE do not think that I am simply defending the police. My years of service have shown that there are some people who simply do not deserve to put that badge on. For those...it comes to light eventually. They will be weeded out. However, the ones that truly serve... and serve with honor... want more than anything for Theresa to be found. In fact, I believe I read that some of them came forth with evidence about his inappropriate comments.
What I am saying is please do not be so harsh to judge the department or the agency as a whole. That is simply not fair. I think we all know who's heart is in the right place and who's is not.
Additionally, I think it adds a negative tone. We should all be hoping and praying for Theresa. Putting our energy into that, and nothing else. Criticizing LE just seems like a mute point. I mean...there is no question that Sam Parker's mental stability is in question. That alone says that he is not fit for duty. There is no such thing as a perfect crime. If he did commit the crime. HE WILL BE busted. I dont know, but I am willing to bet... oh... I dont know... a doughnut... that his department would be happy to assist in the arrest.
Remaining hopeful....
