Ben Chaffin, the former LaFayette, Ga. police officer charged in connection with the Teresa Parker missing persons case, is scheduled to appear in a Walker County, Ga. courtroom at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon. Chaffin was arrested on new charges at his mother's home in Mobile County, Ala. last week, He told a Mobile County judge that he was ready and willing to return to Georgia to face charges filed in association with the search for missing 911 Dispatcher, Theresa Parker. Chaffin was arrested at his mother's Alabama home for the second time. The initial charge was for lying during an investigation. The new felony charges include Violation of Oath by Public Officer, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Computer Invasion of Privacy.
According to an affidavit, the Computer Invasion of Privacy charge stems from Chaffin accessing Theresa Parker's e-mail account on March 17th.
Chaffin waived his extradition rights last week but Walker County authorities didn't pick him up until yesterday. At last week's bond hearing the judge seemed surprised that Walker County authorities had not already arrived to pick him up. In court Chaffin's Alabama attorney offered to drive him back to Georgia. The judge said he would not allow that, however he denied bond.
Ben Chaffin's Georgia attorney told NewsChannel 9 the GBI trampled his liberties in the second arrest in Alabama.
