Over a month of hoping and praying--that's how long Dana Massey has been waiting on answers for her son.
Today, she says, her wait is over.
"He was fun, loving, and full of life," says Brett Thomason's mother Danna Massey. "His life got took and I don't know the reason why, but he's gone now."
Authorities say a body matching the description of 19-year-old Brett Thomason was found along Riverbend Road and Stanley Road around 2:00 this afternoon while Brett's father and step-mother were out searching for their missing boy.
The clothes on the body also matched the description of what Brett was wearing at the time he went missing.
Massey believes the body is that of her son.
"They found my son in the river, and they say he's been there a long time. So I just assumed he drowned and didn't run away just as I said since day one," says Massey.
The search for Thomason was massive. Authorities from several neighboring counties initially helped out with helicopters, boat searches, and a hope that Brett had just lost his way.
"Today, God brought him home, and he's home now," Massey says.
Authorities say the body found today had been in the water for just over a month. And the news today brings a heartwrenching end to the search.
"I wanted to find him, that's been my prayer to find him. Now, we've found him, so now we just got to have faith like I've had all along that God's going to see me through this and my family," says Massey.
The body is right now at the G-B-I crime lab.
His mother also wants to say thank you to all the people who helped in the search.
We should add that while authorities have not conclusively identified the body as that of Brett Thomason, his mother has asked that all the missing person signs for her son, which are all across Whitfield County, be taken down.
