Ten months after his wife, a 911 emergency dispatcher, disappeared, police this morning arrested Samuel L. Parker, 52, on a charge of murder.
Theresa Parker was last seen March 21 as she left her sister’s home. She and Sam Parker were in the process of a divorce at the time. From early on in the case, Sam Parker was listed as a “person of interest.”
Officers from the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Mr. Parker at his home at 9:55 a.m..
He was booked on one count of murder. Parker has been charged with the death of Walker County 911 dispatcher Theresa Parker.
Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said that he expects to file other charges.
The story of Mrs. Parker and her husband, a former LaFayette, Ga., police officer, had received national attention during the weeks and months after she disappeared.
Mr. Parker’s friend and former co-worker Harbin “Ben” Chaffin has been charged with four felonies related to the investigation.
Initially, news conferences and high-profile searches for Mrs. Parker were frequent.
But the careers of the missing woman and her husband to the law enforcement community led Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Herbert “Buzz” Franklin to remove himself from the case in April because of potential conflict of interest.
When Rome Judicial Circuit District Attorney Leigh Patterson was appointed to handle the case, she quickly put a lid on any talk about the case and investigation.
Mr. Parker has continually said he did not harm his wife.
